In Association with the Candlelighters Hero Bead Program

A BEAD PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER

This bead program is for  Pediatric Hemotology/ Oncology
Patients having treatment at The Children’s
Hospital at Sinai.

This program is a way for children with Cancer
To tell the story of their journey
Through treatment
With beads.

It provides colorful beads in many shapes and sizes, all of which correspond to specific procedures. This allows  the Children and their Families  a fun and visual way to document and chronicle their journey in the fight against Cancer.

We acknowledge the courage displayed by each and every child during the challenging and difficult journey of treatment.

HOW DOES THE BEAD PROGRAM WORK?

* Children who receive cancer treatment and wish to participate are given a length of string with beads that spell their first name.

* The special beads of Candlelighters Kids and a Gold Ribbon will also be given to each child at the time of diagnosis.

*Colored beads, each representing a different aspect of care, are available to add to the necklace for procedures performed as both inpatient & outpatient, as well as for some at home treatments.

* Each time a child has a procedure, chemotherapy, surgery, or anything else on the list, it will be theirs, or their parent/gaurdians responsibility to document it on the approriate form provided. Beads will be distributed on a monthly basis.
